The Doosan Bears have earned their first win against the defending champions.
Doosan won 5-2 at home against the LG Twins on Wednesday at Jamsil Stadium in Seoul, South Korea. Doosan snapped a two-game losing streak and recorded its eighth win of the season (11 losses).
The Doosan lineup was Jung Soo-bin (center fielder), Heo Kyung-min (third baseman), Yang Ji-yi (catcher), Kim Jae-hwan (designated hitter), Kang Seung-ho (second baseman), Yang Seok-hwan (first baseman), Park Joon-young (shortstop), Kim Dae-hwan (right fielder), and Cho Sung-hyun (left fielder).
The starting pitcher was Lee Young-ha, who threw a total of 63 pitches and was shaky throughout. There were 32 strikes and 31 balls. In 3⅓ innings, he allowed one run on four hits and four walks with five strikeouts and four strikeouts. His fastball topped out at 152 mph, and he mixed in splitters (24), sliders (13), and curves (1).
Lee was followed by Kim Ho-joon (⅔ scoreless innings), Kim Myung-shin (1 scoreless inning), Lee Byeong-heon (1 scoreless inning), Park Chi-guk (0 scoreless innings), Choi Ji-gang (1 scoreless inning), Hong Gun-hee (1 scoreless inning), Kim Taek-yeon (1 scoreless inning), and Jeong Chul-won (1 scoreless inning).
At the plate, Kang Seung-ho had three hits, while Yang Seok-hwan and Yang Ji had two hits each.
Doosan took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning when Yang Ji and Kang Seung-ho hit RBI singles after a walk by Heo Kyung-min.
They scored one run in the top of the fourth, but in the bottom of the fifth, after Park Kye-beom singled and Yang Ji singled, Kang Seung-ho and Yang Seok-hwan hit RBI singles to extend the lead to 5-1. Despite giving up one run in the top of the seventh inning, they were able to secure the win.
After the game, Doosan manager Lee Seung-yeop said, “From starter Lee Young-ha to reliever Jung Chul-won, all nine pitchers did their part by pitching nine innings of minimal runs. Congratulations to Kim Ho-joon for his first win and Kim Taek-yeon for his first career hold.”
Lee added, “At the plate, Kang Seung-ho was a workhorse, getting valuable hits at key moments. Captain Yang Seok-hwan also did a good job with two 먹튀검증 doubles. I also want to praise Yang for his multi-hit game.”
While he praised both the pitching staff and the batters, there was another moment that stood out to Lee. It was the defense of outfielder Cho Su-sung, who made diving catch after diving catch in left field. In the top of the seventh inning, Cho made a diving catch of Moon Sung-joo’s hit with runners on first and second.
“I would also like to praise Cho, who showed Hustle Doo’s form in defense,” Lee said.
The game was attended by 23,750 fans at Jamsil Baseball Stadium, Doosan’s fifth sellout of the season. Lee said, “The fans who filled the stadium completed the victory today. We are always grateful to them,” Lee said.
