The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Board (LVCVA) today made a monumental decision that will revolutionize transportation in southern Nevada. The 14-member board selected Elon Musk’s The Boring Company (TBC) to approve the recommendation to design, build, and operate People Mover for the Las Vegas Convention Center via an underground highway tunnel that can transport passengers to self-driving electric vehicles at high speed. This innovative project has the potential to connect Downtown, Las Vegas Convention Center, Las Vegas Boulevard Resort Corridor, and McCarran International Airport.
“Las Vegas has maintained its reputation as a leading destination driven by innovation and hospitality,” said Steve Hill, CEO and president of LVCVA. “This project is an example of how our leading principles can create beneficial experiences for our community and valuable visitors.”
The Las Vegas Convention Center, which is currently expanding, will reach 200 acres when completed in time for CES 2021. Convention participants who walk end-to-end through the facility will log about two miles, which has led to the need for in-residence guest transport solutions. Las Vegas received more than 42 million visitors in 2018. The Las Vegas Convention Center hosts more than a million convention attendees annually. The Southern Nevada State Transportation Authority carries an estimated 12 million passengers per year within the Las Vegas Boulevard Resort Corridor. 카지노사이트 순위
“Las Vegas is a high-energy, high-tech destination equipped to welcome the world, and we are excited to provide a system that will help visitors efficiently explore many of the city’s offerings,” said Steve Davis, president of The Boring Company.
TBC, founded by Elon Musk, is a leader in innovative transportation technology. The projects include an R&D test tunnel in Hawthorne, California. The R&D test tunnel represents a fully operational 1.14-mile loop system that costs less than $10 million per mile, including an internal tunnel infrastructure.
LVCVA’s TBC recommendations are the result of a multi-step process that began in 2018 with a request for information to measure interest. After that, proposal requests were issued. Interviews with the selected finalists were conducted by an evaluation team that determined the recommended companies. The evaluation team consisted of representatives of LVCVA, private organizations including Las Vegas resorts, and consultants from the automated human mobility construction and operations industries.
