Average overnight room rates in Macau’s five-star hotel sector were flat month-over-month at MOP1,552.4 (US$193.3) in July and were down 4.4% year-over-year.
Take the latest monthly data from the Macau Hotel Association, published by the Macau Government Tourism Organization (MGTO). The association has 47 hotels as members, 28 of which are five-star hotels. Many of these five-star hotels are inside the city’s casino resort complexes.
According to the latest survey, Macau’s five-star hotel occupancy rate stood at 94.9% in July, up 5.1 percentage points from a year ago.
Macau’s three, four and five-star hotel sector had an average room occupancy rate of 94.3% in July, while the average nightly rate was MOP1,382.1, according to the survey. The average July rate for these three grades was down 3.6% year-on-year.

As of the end of June, Macau had 45,700 hotel rooms, nearly 62% of them 28,300 in five-star ratings, according to separate data from Macau’s statistics office.
The latest data showed that the number of five-star hotel rooms in June was up 9.3% from June 2023.
Macau received 3.02 million visitors in July, up 9.5 percent year-on-year. According to other data from the Macau government, about 1.6 million, or about 53 percent, were day-trippers.
The number of tourists on the same day in July was up 20.2% year-on-year. That’s down 0.5% year-on-year compared to the number of overnight tourists entering Macau in a month that totaled 1.42 million.
