Bunnonghoe was founded in 1998 and has been a team that has continued to this day. The team was formed through the Migeum YMCA basketball program located in Migeum Station, Bundang, and has continued the team’s legacy by leading advisor Kim Jin-wan, former chairman Kim Sung-soo, and chairman Kim Hee-yong, who currently reside in the United States.

At the beginning, it was a social gathering, but junior players who played some basketball continued to attend various competitions and take on the current appearance. There are about 80 family members. It is not an exaggeration to say that it has the largest number of elderly teams. Currently, about 50 people are actively participating.

There are also many players who used to play basketball. There are also players in their 70s or older. Byeon Dong-hyuk, a former Hanyang University advisor, and Kim Sang-wook, a former Daegyeongsang High School advisor, are still members of the Bunnong Association and enjoy basketball from time to time. There are five members who were born in the 1950s.

In addition, current Dongguk University coach Lee Ho-geun, coach Kim Ki-jung, coach of Sanghoon Lee, and guard Jeon Byung-chul from Sungkyunkwan University are also members of the Bunnong Association and enjoy sports basketball.

The Bunnonghoe, which has been actively engaged since its inception, has also won awards. Starting with the Jeonju event in 2013, the Bunnonghoe is one of the strongest teams in the elderly, who won the title in 2015 in Seongnam City, and the runner-up prize in competitions in their 40s or older. In 2017, the Bunnonghoe won the first father’s basketball competition, and the runner-up prize in the same competition in 2023. His performance is robust enough to win the title once or twice a year.

Regular exercises are held every Sunday at Tancheon General Gymnasium, and at the Bubble Gym in the star, there are also two meetings per month. In addition, they participate in various competitions once or twice a month to revitalize the team’s atmosphere, which can be somewhat boring only with regular exercise.

Yeom Cheol, 55, who leads the Bunnonghoe, said, “There are quite a lot of participation in the competition. I aim to win, but I avoid it just for the sake of winning, and I usually exercise in various ways including in-house games, invitation games, and competition games every Sunday to improve my health through basketball. Team members also do not make selection for their performance. Members who sacrifice for their team come first. We have to consider the results, but if the aforementioned parts are in good harmony, I think we can get good results in the competition while sticking to the basic meaning of daily sports. Basketball is a team sport and a group activity. I always think that the ‘team first’ mindset should come first. I also need to make personal sacrifices for the team and fulfill my basic responsibilities. I will try my best to establish the Bunnonghoe as a prestigious club,” he said, emphasizing the Bunnonghoe philosophy and team spirit.

In addition, Chairman Yeom said, “In 2017, my 50-year-old father achieved excellent results, including winning the basketball competition. With good performances in various competitions, new team members are added, and if the team work is well maintained, there will be good results in the 40-year-old competition with a high attendance rate.
