…bottom-ranked Kiwoom thumps No. 4 Samsung 10-3
William Cuevas, the foreign ace of the KT Wiz, is once again a tame lamb when it comes to the LG Twins. After pitching consistently well this season, he was unable to prevent his team from losing its fifth straight game as LG gave up a ton of runs.
KT lost 2-8 at home to LG in the 2024 KBO League at KT Wiz Park in Suwon, South Korea, on April 8. With the loss, KT fell into a five-game losing streak, having lost all of its games this week. Meanwhile, LG, which swapped places with the Kia Tigers for first place the day before, took the lead for the second day in a row and took another step toward its goal of winning back-to-back titles for the first time since last year.
The starting pitching matchup was a mixed bag, with Detrick Enns, who was on the disabled list, pitching five innings of four hits (one home run), five walks, four strikeouts, and two runs. His pitches weren’t great, but he kept the KT offense to a minimum.
Cuevas, who had been pitching much better than Enns up until this point, had the opposite result. After giving up two runs in the first inning, he gave up seven runs on eight hits (one earned) in five innings with three walks and three strikeouts, and was the reason for KT’s loss.
LG opened the scoring in the first inning when Moon Sung-joo led off with a double down the left field line, and Austin Dean followed with an RBI single up the middle. In the third inning, Moon set the table with a double to right-center, and LG scored its third run on Kim Hyun-soo’s RBI single.
LG continued to pound Cuevas. In the fourth inning, Park Dong-won hit a two-run homer in the middle of the inning to cement the victory, and again in the fifth inning, Kim Hyun-soo hit an RBI double and Park Dong-won’s sacrifice fly plated the seventh run.
For Cuevas, LG Electronics must be a nightmare. After returning to KT midseason last year, Cuevas led the league with 12 wins and no losses in 18 games. However, against LG, he had the worst record with an 11.45 ERA in three games. In his career, he had a 9.00 ERA in 토토사이트 nine games with four losses.
LG got two multi-hit games from Hong Chang-ki and Moon Sung-joo, two RBIs from Kim Hyun-soo at No. 3, and three RBIs from Park Dong-won at No. 6. KT, whose bats were struggling, hit their 18th home run of the season in the fifth inning when Kang Baek-ho hit a two-run shot to left. He moved into a tie for first place in that category with Choi Jung (SSG Landers).
At the Gocheok Sky Dome, the bottom-ranked Kiwoom Heroes handed the fourth-ranked Samsung Lions their fourth straight loss. Kiwoom set the tone in the first inning with a three-run home run by Song Sung-moon, and in the bottom of the inning, Kim Hye-sung and Song Sung-moon hit back-to-back RBI singles and Won Sung-joon hit a sacrifice fly to make it 6-2.
In the sixth inning, Song Sung-moon doubled with two outs. After back-to-back walks loaded the bases, Kim Jae-hyun drove in the go-ahead run with a two-run single to center field.
Kiwoom starter Ariel Hurado improved to 6-4 on the season. Hurado allowed 10 hits and two walks over six innings, but she used excellent crisis 바카라사이트 management to limit the damage to two runs and help her team secure the win.
The NC Dinos won 4-2 behind a strong pitching performance from Korean ace Shin Min-hyuk. Shin utilized a fastball that topped out at 144 mph, a changeup, and a cutter to shut down the Hanwha bats that scored 26 runs in three games during the week. He threw just 85 pitches over seven innings and allowed two runs to earn the win. Hanwha sent out Moon Dong-ju, who tops out at 156 mph, but he was unable to capitalize on NC’s shifters, giving up four runs and taking the loss.
In Jamsil, the Doosan Bears, led by veterans Yang Yang-ji and Yang Seok-hwan, speedy Lee Yoo-chan and Cho Su-hyun, and the bullpen, defeated KIA for their fifth straight win. After starter Kim Yoo-sung was knocked around for two runs in a third of an inning in the first inning, Doosan mobilized its bullpen and rallied from a 0-5 deficit in the top of the third inning. After loading the bases with no outs in the bottom of the fourth inning against Kia starter and substitute foreign pitcher Cam Aldred, Doosan exploded for five runs.
Yang went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, including a two-run single in the final at-bat, while Yang Seok-hwan hit his second straight home run with a two-run shot. Eighth baseman Lee Yoo-chan and ninth baseman Cho Su-hyun also contributed with two hits and two runs scored.
The game between the Lotte Giants and SSG Landers in Busan was postponed due to rain. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Sept. 9, back-to-back with the original game.
