The breakthrough was announced on June 29 after an hour of negotiations involving union leaders and representatives of Wynn Resorts. Both sides expressed satisfaction with the terms of the agreement, which they believe meets workers’ demands for better wages, benefits and job security.

Boston media WGBH reported that UNITE HERE Local 26 Chairman Carlos Aramayo praised casino management for its leadership by agreeing a contract to guarantee excellent wages and benefits for resort workers. He also expressed relief that strikes could be avoided and emphasized the spirit of partnership that prevailed during the negotiations.

Details of the contract are not disclosed until a ratification vote scheduled for June 30. However, the union is optimistic that the agreement will achieve the goal of a “five-star contract” with competitive wages and the highest level of welfare beyond industry standards.

Represented by UNITE HERE Local 26 and Teamsters Local 25, workers play a wide range of roles, from room attendants and cocktail servers to delivery drivers and bar porters. Angkor Boston Harbor Casino, owned by Las Vegas-based Wynn Resorts, has been under pressure to sign a new contract since its previous casino expired in April. Union leaders had threatened to picket out 24/7 unless an agreement was reached in time.
