Reeves shared his admiration for James in an interview with Sports Illustrated on Monday (Sept. 9).

Reeves also weighed in. “I think James is the GOAT,” Reeves said. The Lakers should build a statue of him in the future.”
The Lakers are one of the most prestigious franchises in the NBA and have produced many stars, but few have been honored with statues. Jerry West, Elgin Baylor, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, and Shaquille O’Neal are among those honored at Crypto.com Arena. There’s also a statue of Chick Hearn, who served as the Lakers’ play-by-play announcer for over 40 years. Chick Hearn is a legendary figure who coined terms like slam dunk, airball, and garbage time.
In terms of cumulative stats, James will be remembered alongside Michael Jordan as a superstar for the ages. However, there are mixed reactions to the idea of a statue in his honor after his retirement from the Lakers. That’s because he didn’t spend many seasons with the Lakers. James played five seasons with the Lakers before being traded in 2018.
Despite the mixed reviews, local media outlet Clutch Point also backed Reeves’ opinion that James is the greatest player to ever play the game. “The Lakers have been in a long slump since 2010, when they won a championship with Kobe Bryant,” Clutch Point wrote. They won just 17 games in the 2015-2016 season. However, they returned to the top in 2020 with James and Anthony Davis,” the report said.
“Despite the ups and downs since the championship, James, the all-time leading scorer, is still considered the best player in the game,” Clutch Point continued.
